COMIC BOOK ART COURSE

Happy Harbor is proud to host this 8 week, 16 hour course presented by Mr. Fred Curatolo. Fred has been the editorial cartoonist for the Edmonton Sun from 1989 to 2006 and has previously taught art class in Edmonton through the Community League. COURSE DATES: Sundays from 3 pm to 5 pm beginning September 17 ending December 12.
(Please note that classes will be suspended Oct 8 due to 24 Hour Comics Day)

AGES: 13 and up

COST: $110 early registration period until Friday, September 15. $130 late registration due no later than 2:30 pm Sunday September 17. Registrtaion forms are now available at Happy Harbor.
(Please note: supplies are NOT included)

COURSE OUTLINE: An introduction in the basic elements of "Comic Book Art" though the following stages;

1 - Human Shapes
2 - Human Anatomy
3 - Perspective
4 - Layout and Design
5 - Inking and Lettering
6 - Colour Work

Weekly lesson plans will be distributed. In order to grasp the fundementals described above, it is essential that these lessons be completed in their entirety.

1 - Sketch pad
2 - pencil(s)
3 - Perspective
4 - Eraser
5 - Ruler (12" or 15")

Supply list (second half)
1 - T-square
2 - Set-square (40 or 60)
3 - Fine tip black marker
4 - Brushes
5 - Lettering nib / speedball #A-5
6 - Lettering nib holder
7 - Black India Ink (1 fluid ounce)

LEARNING OUTCOME: Students will be educated on the proper formation of a comic book, different techniques as well as taking a concept and applying it to the project from start to finish.
